Jo Anna and Valerie had been close since childhood. When Valerie became sick with cancer, she asked Jo Anna to help her husband Bob and their three children if anything happened to her. Unfortunately, Valerie passed away leaving Bob and Jo Anna devastated. After a very difficult year of mourning, Jo Anna and Bob fell in love. They took the entire family to Hawaii and were married. The children adjusted well, and now call Aunt Jo Anna "mommy."
